Overview

Describes the importance of preparing for digital collections stewardship, and the key steps to preparation. Leads you through defining digital stewardship goals for your institution and community and helps you to identify and/or create the library policies you’ll need to guide the work. This course will then take you through initial planning questions as you define a digital collection project and how you will accomplish it.

The training is organized around our five stage digital stewardship lifecycle model. This course covers the Prepare stage. Other courses cover Gather, Enhance, Save, and Share. The training encourages a community-based and culturally informed approach to digital collections stewardship throughout the lifecycle stages. We recognize that your communities and organizations have unique needs, and we encourage you to customize policies, tools, activities and goals based on your community, culture, organizational structure, and language(s). In each course, we highlight opportunities for identifying and responding to these needs. We call these opportunities Cultural Checks.
